CSV to JSON Converter

Paste CSV from a spreadsheet export and get an array of JSON objects, keyed by the header row. Quoted fields, embedded commas and line breaks are handled.

Input · drop a file

Output

How the conversion works

  • The first row becomes the property names (untick First row is header to get arrays of arrays instead).
  • The delimiter is detected from the first line; override it if a field in the header contains commas.
  • With Detect numbers & booleans on, 3 becomes the number 3, true becomes a boolean and empty cells become null. Numbers with leading zeros (ZIP codes, IDs like 007) stay strings so nothing is lost.
  • Quoted fields follow RFC 4180: a value may contain the delimiter or a line break if it is wrapped in double quotes, and "" inside quotes is a literal quote.

Going the other way

Use JSON to CSV to flatten nested JSON back into a spreadsheet.

Questions

Why is all my data in one field?

The delimiter was not detected correctly — usually a semicolon-separated file from European Excel. Pick Semicolon in the Delimiter menu.

Can it convert an Excel file directly?

Save the sheet as CSV first (File → Save As → CSV UTF-8), then open it here.

Is my file uploaded?

No. The CSV is parsed in your browser.
